Back in the Swing of Thing

Well the book fair officially opened yesterday from 8:00-3:30. It was a VERY long day but luckily I was able to split it with my friend. We have had more moms volunteer this time around because everyone was sent a letter saying that if you didn't have a certain about of volunteer hours by March 7 then your child wouldn't be placed in a class. That kind of lit a fire under some butts so we have had a lot more help.

Yesterday was the day the classes came in to do their wish lists. After the fall book fair we got smarter and assigned the younger classes helpers. So this time it went much smother. I will be there again today from 11:45-6:00. Then again on Friday all day till 3:00 after which we get to take it all down.

I was asked yesterday if I wanted to be Chairman of the book fair board for next year. I'm on the board now and I like that but I'm not sure I want the whole responsibility of running the whole thing. I'm just going to have to think about this a bit before I give my answer. I do enjoy book fairs and it is twice a year. The only problem is that my friend is now Chairman and it was just the two of us last fall. Only a few parents volunteered. I saw how stressed she was. If I could get some good help I think it wouldn't be too bad. Oh decisions decisions.

Thanks to all of you for your thought and prayers. It really meant a lot to feel loved! I wanted to post while at my moms house but for some reason my dad's computer wouldn't let me. Weird. Anyway, it was a good visit considering. My little G-man kept my mom busy. It was good he was there, he was a great distraction. She enjoyed playing with him. Sat. was the hardest day of all. We had SO many family members calling and talking to us. I talked to so many family member, some of which I hadn't seen since I was 7. It was always nice when someone got on that spoke English, even if it was just a little. It got to the point where I was thinking in Spanish. I was surprised at how quickly the language came back to me. Everyone I spoke with said that everything was just beautiful, which was good to hear because my mom arranged it all over the phone. They had a closed casket, which I'm a huge advocate of. Her son just didn't want to see her laying there and I can't say I blame him (I wonder who came up with the whole open casket thing anyway). A few family member complained about it being a closed casket. I find that sad since it is her son that matters in this anyway.

It was good to be with my mom over the weekend. My dad was on military duty for the weekend so my mom would have been alone. We wanted to get plane tickets to go out to Puerto Rico but it was just too expensive. I was glad when my mom called early Friday morning to ask me to come up. I could hear her cheer up when I said I would.

My aunt died this morning. Even though we were all expecting it, it was still hard when it happened. My mom called and the minute I answered I knew what she was going to say. My grandparents were the first to find out when they went to the hospital to visit this morning. I feel so bad for them. Losing a child is never easy to take no matter how old your child is. I think as parents you just expect to go first. The good thing is that she went peacefully and without pain. We are all grateful for that. My heart goes out to my cousin. I pray that he finds peace in this time of great sorrow. He was very close to his mom and I know he is having a hard time with this. Thanks for all your sweet comments and prayers.

Book Fair and Other Things

The book fair for the boys school is next week and I have been busy busy busy. I'm incharge of it and I just finished selecting all the books for it. Lucky for me all that could be done online and over the phone. They will be dilivered on Monday @10 then I get the fun time of setting it all up so we can open Tues.-friday. Tomorrow I am heading up to the school to make copies for all the teachers to hand out. That will be an all day event (yeah for me). I'm so ready for next week to end.

I haven't posted about this because I just hate writing bad news. Don't you just wish life could be one big happy party with nothing bad happening. About a month ago my aunt went into the hospital in Puerto Rico for Pneumonia. My mom flew out to be with her and her parents. At one point it looked like she would pull through. But she took a turn for the worst and has been heading down hill ever since. My grandparents just called to let us know that the Dr's. have done all they can and now we just wait for her to die. I feel so bad for my mom and my grandparents. Also for my cousin. We are just praying that she passes quickly and without pain.

Okay, I've decided that I can't leave this post on a sad note so I'll post some good news. My good friend Julie is coming to see me in March!! Oh happy day!! She is coming down to do a book show at my house (hey whatever gets her here) and then she will be showing me the ropes because I've decided to sell Usborne books also. Hopefully together we can earn a trip to Rome!!
I've never sold anything before in my life but I figure I LOVE to read and I think Usborne books are great so why not.

Happy Valentines Day!

This morning Blake got the kids up for school, packed their lunches and even drove all the boys to school. Thanks hunny for letting me sleep in!!

Today I'll be heading to the school to drop off treats for Korbin's class party. Then over to Brekkon's classroom where I'm incharge of the V-day craft. All the while my sweet G-man will be taging along. He really is the catch at the school. Whenever I show up with him I always have an instant babysitter. I can usually find him in the Principals office watching tv or just hanging out with the other staff members. After my fun at the school we will be heading home where the boys will find their V-day goodies on their beds. The older two are so excited they keep reminding me to not forget. As if I ever could! Then tonight I'll be making stuffed shells, a favorite, and we will stay up late and watch a movie: "The Princess Bride" or "Stardust"; both have action and a love story to satisfy everyone.

A Camping We Will Go

That's right everyone, I'm the new Ward Camp Director. No I didn't get released from my other calling which is Secretary in the Young Womens Program. At first I felt a bit overwhelmed but after being set apart and having an assistant called I'm feeling much better. I can honestly say that right now I have the best of both worlds; I still get to stay in YW and now I HAVE to go to camp. Could life be any better??

Our theme is "Beautifully Created, Rock Sollid". Each ward has been assigned a mountain, we have Everest. We are now suppossed to chose a scripture that goes with your mountain. They want us to study about our mountain and center our devotionals around them. I'm so excited to have Everest. Our camp ID is Endurance and our scripture is D&C 14:7 "And, if you keep my commmandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God." I have been thinking about this for 2 weeks now and am very excited with what I have come up with. I've also been reading about Mount Everest and what it takes to hike it. One thing is that there is a rope that goes from the top of the mountain down to the first base camp. Everything is anchored to that rope: you, your tents, everything. They do this so that if there is an avalanche or bad storm you or the tents wont be lost. I thought I would relate that to the iron rod and how our lives need to be anchored to it.

I just honestly feel so lucky to be able to attend camp this year and with such a wonderful theme. The YW in our ward are so wonderful and I'm looking forward to hanging out with them at camp.
