I have to say that making the cake was SO much fun. Brekkon helped me with the diapers when things got a little hard for one person. Once the cake layers were done all I had to do was load it up with all the goodies.
For the top I got a teddy bear lovie and I found a matching teddy that I put on the side. I used blue and white baby socks and and tucked them in to make the flower look. I also put 6 wash cloths on the cake. I took two at a time and tied them with ribbon. Also on the cake is baby wash, baby lotion, baby powder, a brush and comb, and some fun baby toys. The diapers I used were the Pampers Swaddlers (I wanted the diapers white) size one, 188 diapers in all. To help support the weight I put card board between each layer.
Tips:
1. If you don't want to use a lot of diapers then put things in the center such as: blankets, towels, onesies, lotion or round baby wipes and then wrap the diapers around it. You can also use a hat box as the center and but the diapers around that.
2. Another thing you can do is only make two layers and then use a cute stuffed animal to be your top of the cake.
3. A lot of my toys I was able to find at the dollar store along with the bow and clear wrap.
4. Just be creative and have fun with it!!
Now I just hope that the next baby shower I get invited to is for a girl. Boy do I have that diaper cake all planned out!! Funny, I was just thinking that all the diaper cakes I've had a hand in makeing have all been for boys.
